Zebras

I love when there are things that happen which are so outside the norm that I know spirit has a strong hand in what occurs.

Such was the case when in Washington state there was an unusual wildlife sighting last Sunday. Four zebras escaped from the trailer they were traveling in and galloped into a Washington residential neighborhood.

Now three of them were quickly captured but the fourth - he was the tricky one. He wasn't caught for a number of days as he wandered the streets.

The zebras were on their way from Washington to Montana when the driver noticed the trailer did not seem fully secured. He pulled off the freeway in North Bend, which is about 30 miles south of Seattle.

The zebras bolted. The local community was in a state of disbelief when they noticed the zebras grazing near the off ramp. Local drivers helped protect the zebras from the traffic and made a makeshift fence to block in the animals.

At that point, the zebras decided they wanted to go to town. A local restaurant filled with diners watched as the zebras wandered past. Then the local police got a call from a resident. "I found the missing zebras you guys are looking for; they are foraging for food in my front yeard!"

Two of the zebras were captured with the help of rodeo professionals. This begged a question from me. Did the local rodeo professionals ride up on their horses with lassos? Did they just happen to live in the area and decided to saddle the horse and ride over? Was there a rodeo in town?

Eventually the third zebra was captured later that day. It took a few more days to find the fourth. During that time there were numerous 'sightings' throughout the area. It was a story where the writes earned their stripes! (moan.)

It reminded me that the Sacramento Zoo is moving from it's present location to the Elk Grove area. I haven't seen the renderings of the new zoo or know exactly where it will be located. It is still some years down the road.

I wonder what will happen to the location they are leaving? That is prime property in the middle of a great park. It will be fun to watch the change. Perhaps there will be zebras.........
