Wonder of Awe

This is a summation of a lot of earlier blogs about our role and story line in our human life. I have some rather consistent thoughts about the journey.

I remind again that this is not a rehearsal, a life of try again in some future. Even though I do believe in reincarnation, I also believe that this is a life complete unto itself. Our job is to live in full authentic consciousness saying 'yes' to the opportunities.

I took a class in the past called 'The Wonder Of Awe.' It is the fact that the material world is much like the pearl within an oyster. Each day when we take things for granted it is at the same time well beyond normal.

There was a science fiction story in which a man fell in love with a girl he met at a bed and breakfast up in the hills above Pasadena. She was going to be in the area for only a couple weeks. As they became closer, he realized she was more than she seemed. He discovered she was a time traveler from the future. She was an experiential junkie. She and her friends traveled to particular places and times in history for one reason. They had discovered that when there was a great disaster occurring something happened just prior to the event. The Earth seemed to provide a week just prior that was perfect in every way. The following week there was going to be one of the largest earthquakes of all times. It would destroy all of Los Angeles. So they came to live the perfect week just prior to the event.

What an interesting concept! Yet in truth we never know what will be next. I've always said that this very time is the 'good old days.' It is why we are asked to live in the moment and not get caught up with the past or future. I think it is actually jarring to our spiritual balance when we live too much in the past or the future.

Years ago we went out to a lovely Italian restaurant near our house. We had a very attentive waiter but I was uncomfortable with him and the evening. My wife and I talked about it. We realized he only talked in the future. All his terms and questions and conversation were done in the future tense. So in a way even when he was standing in front of us he wasn't present. Once we discovered what was happening we were able to step aside from joining him in his future tense conversations and the energy calmed down.

So there are some easy goals to aim for in joining fully in this life. We must be fully present and live in the now. We acknowledge the preciousness of everything around us and notice it. Don't just notice it; treasure it! My wife and I will pull over any time to notice a particular bank of clouds or a strange roadside oddity.

At one point as we were driving, we noticed a yard of lifelike metal sculptures. I got to the end of the block and turned around. We pulled over in front of the yard and took photos.

As Ferris Bueller once said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around oce in a while, you could miss it." Don't miss it. After all it is made by God!
