It's really important that we surround ourselves with items which are comfort for us. I realized this a bit more the other day when I woke up with zero energy and fighting the urger to spend the entire day in bed. It wasn't a balanced day ahead.
I immediately cued up on my You Tube the Dire Straits video called "Walk of Life." I followed that with Pharrell Williams "Happy" followed by weird Al Jankovic's "Tacky." Just watching those three videos back to back to back connected me directly with my musical upbeat feelings and off I went. I was still tired but much more balanced about it.
We all have things in our lives that bring us up, that calm us down, and that we use to play in our lives. On my desk there are a few such items for me. One is a photo of me taken in the Mall of the Americas standing next to Sponge Bob Square Pants! Yes, the actual Sponge Bob. Next to it is a watercolor of a beautiful little goat that was painted by my wife. This little goat constantly calms me down and is a big part of life. I settle in with my goat as I work at my station.
Just above my goat is a piece of construction paper (light brown). On it written in color crayon are the words "Follow your heart" and there are stickers and stamps on the paper. It was given to me after a sermon at a visiting church. The kids sat in on the service and after my sermon put together the paper as a gift.
It's important that each of us have touchstones that make a difference in our showing up in life. It may be something someone gave us or something that spoke to us that we found. It goes back to the fact that life is about memories and experiences not words and meanings.
As you move forward, make sure there is a balance in your touchstone items. Let them reflect a story from your grand adventure. It need only mean something to you.
I've always been a little carried away around this idea. Our walls and our house are filled with the stories of our life. I realized as I wrote this piece that Rachel and I can walk through our house and in most cases tell you the story behind each item ranging from where we got it to it's meaning. Make sure your life and the home you live in reflect the story of your life..........
