In the midst of the flow of life, sometimes I find myself just tired of the ego-run world. It seems the world is one huge Survivor episode and everyone is forming alliances and backstabbing each other. Even my internal "tigger" energy grows weary. Then comes some news that changes everything.
Madeline lives in Los Angeles and has an obsession around unicorn like Agnes from the movie Despicable Me. At one point Agnes gets so excited about unicorns she shouts, "my little brain is just going to explode with happy!" Real life Madeline is seven and has a room filled with all things unicorn. She talked to her mother and said she wanted to have a unicorn. Mom loved teachable moments so she told Madeline to find out what she must do to have a unicorn. She went back to her room and the house was quiet. She soon came back with a written letter saying she wanted to have a unicorn. Together she and her mother found out the letter should go to the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control Department.
So off the letter went. The director of the agency received the letter and said later she like to help dreams along. So a reply was drafted stating the steps to keep a unicorn. It had things like polishing their horn on a monthly basis with a soft cloth. Also that unicorns need to have watermelon in their diet at least once a week. Then the reply suggested Madeline come visit the agency.
So Madeline and her mom made the trip. When they arrive the director went over the care of a unicorn and other items. They explored the fact that the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland (though Madeline already knew that!). At the end of the visit the director and the agency presented Madeline with the first license to keep a unicorn. Now Madeline is working on her plan to go to Scotland for her unicorn. After all it is the symbol for innocence and pure joy. This is such a pure story in the midst of the world.. There is a sense of wonder and aw everywhere and sometimes if we don't see it we only need look to find someone who does. Find your wonder! Thank you Madeline!
