Rachel and I tell each other often the phrase "I love you." I want her to know I consider myself to be the luckiest guy on the planet to be in relationship with her. It amazes me in the end that she chose me!
But there is another side to the love thing. "I love you has the same qualities of God (it makes perfect sense). I have no idea what it means to love Rachel; it is ever morphing, ever changing, ever deepening. Every time I think I've hit a new depth in loving her, something happens. Then I find myself falling deeper into the ocean of love and realize there is a deeper level. Just as trying to define God, defining love only puts boundaries on something with no boundaries.
It still blows me away that the more I love, the more love I have to give! What a concept! I had a dear friend who grew up with such a terrible home life. I may have even shared this in another blog because I love this response. She grew up to be such a loving woman who made a tremendous impact where she lived. She was asked after childhood how did she see spirit in everyone? She said she just got up each morning and loved the world!
This concept of love is the same as our perfect relationship with God. The more we know God, the more there is to know. Yet it never changes and both actions are totally experiential. There are so many books written about both topics and none of the books truly tell the story.
It is the story of the group of blind men while examining an elephant. Each blind man had his own experience. One man explored the smoothness of the ivory tusk, one the amazing trunk, one the leathery skin, etc. Yet in the end there is so much more than just our single perceptions.
So it becomes so, so simple to know God and to know love - just do it. Experience it and stop trying to figure it out. The more we talk instead of live these two arenas, the more trouble we will get in. Find your moments of total connection and enjoy and live them.
So I love and I am open to knowing God and both are the ultimate in spiritual journeys. There is no one explanation but it is a roller coaster living the experience. The grand adventure continues!
