One of my favorite T-shirts states "I live in my own little world; but it's OK, they know me here!" It speaks to the construct we build to help us live in the world. Let's face it, the world is a pretty overwhelming place to be. We each build our own little sub-world to help us live in it.
When I became a hypnotherapist and put together my office that would be one I would like I populated it with my favorites. It was a big office and the furthest corner from the door was a corner filled with teddy bears. There were over 300 of them ranging from 2-3 inches to a huge 5-foot teddy bear.
I have always loved teddy bears and I confess my wife joins me on this journey. When we got married I had Beebee, the bear I slept with. Then on our journey we went to a bed and breakfast in Monterey. There was a teddy bear on our bed and when it came time to check out he demanded we take him along. Thus Andy joined the family. Later we went back to the same bed and breakfast and found Andy's little sister named Chubbles. Sammi joined us in Australia and soon Rache' came to live on Rachel's side of the bed/ Recently we haved added Cuddles and Charlie. This just our bed family! We have countless conversations with this group every night. In addition we also have another 100 teddy bears guarding the door and on top of our dresser in the bedroom.
They are our 'kids' and join us in everything. We have a photo of Andy and Chubbles sitting in the first class seats next to us on an airplane. We also have a wonderful water color painting of Andy and Chubbles on the bedroom wall so the two of them can look at it as they sit on the bed. When Chubbles joined us she unionized the bears to make sure they got their rights (the right to bear arms). Chubbles can be as much of a brat as I can be.
When I was in charge of the prayer chaplain program at our church we made hospital visits with prayer shawls for those we visited. Some men were a bit uncomfortable so I started a teddy bear program. No one turns down a teddy bear. When my Uncle Don got cancer we took him a bear and when he passed his teddy bear joined him on his journey.
This means I have my own little world filled with those who love me, no matter what. They are always upbeat! Chubbles likes to get under the covers and play ;fort.' This involves getting deep inside the covers and yelling 'fort' over and over again.
At this point I have friends who wonder if this might be a little too much information to share. But I'm the lucky one. I always have a safe haven filled with my perfect friends - representations of all my imperfections and I am so well-loved.
What does your construct look like? It actually a perfect spiritual; reflection of who you are...........
