There is no doubt that life is the world's roller coaster. We just don't know when the next drop or rise will occur ahead of us. Life is full of curves and getting blindsided. It is the most surreal at times and we can't believe what is going on. I have given up trying to figure it out or understand it. I just surrender that we are in a Monty Python skit and no one has told us.
Monty Python was an irreverent British comedy group that did an amazing television show in the 1970's. They had beautiful skits that have become classics that look at the absurdity of life. But be prepared if you are not familiar with them. They are so often irreverent and many times inappropriate. But then that is how my humor works.
There is a skit done by the group. It takes place on the hill where the crucifixion is taking place (I warned you this would be irreverent!). The two thieves being crucified with Jesus are talking and in the end realize that their situation is just what it is. So they break into a song called "Always look on the Bright Side od Life." The lyrics are comparable to "Don't Worry Be Happy." It doesn't mean we turn our back on the seriousness of life. It just means it is important to see both sides in the process.
Case in point - I undergo dialysis three days a week for four hours each session. I will do so for the rest of my life. I see others coming into the center and it is obvious they are fighting every second of the journey. They are filled with resistance. The dialysis is such a challenge.
But this is what I know. My kidneys have failed and dialysis saves my life over and over again. I have gone from taking over 15 pills twice a day to less than five pills. Three times a week I do a process that helps me stay at a target weight (my best weight in twenty years). All of the swelling in my legs is gone. I'm down seventy pounds. For twelve hours a week I have the opportunity to sit and slow down and meditate or read. Even though I am tired when yhe process is done, the naps I take afterward are healing.
So thank you Monty Python for reminding me to "look on the bright side of life".............
