Resistance

There seems to be sonme order to our lives. I find often that is it clear that God knows everything because I find many times I don't understand at all how things happen or even what is happening. I just surrender to the truth that God knows all so there must be a reason for the way things happen.

I find that if I spend too much time trying to figure out things I will just get in deep water and in the end will be frustrated. Fritz Perls, one of the early leaders of Gestalt therapy, wrote a book about letting the river flow. In it he uses the analogy of life being a river. It seems that most of us spend our time trying to row upstream expending huge amounts of energy and resistance fighting against the current.

Meanwhile we watch as people flow by sitting quietly in the boat floating along the theme. It doesn't take a lot of energy and we let the river do all the work.

During my early years of sales, I trained janitors in doing their work. I would train the night teams that kept large facilities clean. I always started out stating I was teaching people how to be lazy. This was the bad work ethic of avoiding wwork; it was the lazy being incredibly effective and getting the work done in the easiest way. It was about organizing and making the work easier to do. Thus the question for each of us revolves around where are we expending great amounts of resistance. These are the areas that cause what I call 'internal' wars. These are those issues we debate within us that we haven't decided on a clear answer. Thus one day we might think one way and the next day we might think another way. It is in this arena we spend a lot of time and energy trying to decide. Some of these issues can be earth shaking and some of them can be so triivial. But they don't go away. They are always pushing at the back of our thoughts.

We all have these place. It is that one thing on our list of life tasks that never gets to seem to get done. I always find we have such relief when one of these items is cleared. Let us move forward day to day until out thinking process is filled with clarify.
