I love the stories around Albert Einstein and some of his quotes are among my favorites. He was known for getting so deep into his mind that he was in a world of his own.
I've told this story before. Einstein was walking down a corridor alone and a couple interns saw him coming. They were nervous and even more so when he stopped them. "Hello professor," they said. He looked and asked them which way was the cafeteria. They pointed behind him. He looked back over his shoulder and said, "Good, I've eaten!"
I heard a new Einstein quote today which I love; it is "A coincidence is God's way of being anonymous." Thus is the way of life and the coincidence which sends us down one road instead of another. I do not believe in coincidences; it is all a part of the grand flow of the universe. It is explored in all faith traditions and with many different words. Kismet is one of the words which means fate or destiny. It is something that was meant to be.
When my wife asked me out she did so because of a birthday party - and they said she could bring a date. She tells me she had her eye on me for about six months and she was intrigued. The interesting thing about fate or kismet or destiny is there is a sacred flow to the process that is filled with certainty. I had been single for a long time. My experiences dating was so uncomfortable that I told my staff I was not getting married again. I wasn't dating and then got the email that changed everything. Sure, I thought; I'll go on a date! We met at a restaurant near her house. She had me meet her at the restaurant so I would not know where she lived.
"As her daughter said, ""She didn't let you know where she lived in case you were psychotic. Once she realized you were psychotic, she married you.
We pulled out from the restaurant and got about a mile down the road everything changed. All I knew is that I wanted to spend more time with her.
I followed up by asking her if I could take her out again. She replied that we had not even finished up on our first date,
I knew then we had a bright because I then asked her if she was going to take some action so I would not ask her out again - she then just smiled at me, Even there in the beginning, I could see through her ego trees a spirit unlike any I had met before. I knew this woman and I was going to be on my best behavior to learn more about her.
So this strange coincidence from 2005 has taken us on such a grand adventure. She has allowed me to have such a solid voice and take some steps I am amazed at. She has stepped into spirit into the holy grail of interfaith in the Sacramento region building bridges in so many different ways. Her artistry has taken amazing steps as she explores art.
Together we have explored the world. For the first fifteen years, we averaged five trips a year breaking new ground in our playground we know as the Earth. Each and every day continues to be a grand adventure and I know there is another one tomorrow and the next day and the next day. We say we love each other often yet we confess we don't know what that means - but it is so fun finding out more and more.
A coincidence some 19 years ago changed everything and it is kismet!
