The power of words is beyond our comprehension. Words do so many different things in our lives. We use them to define terms that cannot be defined - such as love and God. We use them to help define who we ae, even though it may be a tiny part of the totality.
I had an extensive hypnotherapy practice for about ten years. I participated in a great deal of training to be able to hold sacred space for people to do their own work. I used to say each session was like a raft ride down a wild river. The wild river was the client's flow of life. As a hypnotherapist I was there to stick an oar in the water now and then and let the client do all the work. The results were often miracles.
During my training the power of words was demonstrated. The mind takes on self-definition and then fills in the gaps. However this means that some of who we think we are is based upon false learning from people in our lives.
In my life, I heard over and over again that I was very stupid. I started hearing that before I had verbal skills. At a pre-verbal level, the words started to become energetically part of my body memory. It became of the body wisdom even if it was not true - after all these were people who I trusted! So I had my own personal filter about every action I took, every issue I approached, and every decision I made. This has brought a special kind of duality in my thinking. I will give a sermon during which I am amazed at the spirit flowing through me, the depth of my words, and how well the congregation takes to the sermon. Then the moment I finish my sermon I turn to my wife and ask her, "How did I do?"
Doubt is my ego foundation from the childhood learning. It is not in compliance with the complete fully Divine being I am. It is part of the issue I am working through.
This is why I believe so much in personal affirmations, chants, and mantras. All need to be positive based with connection to the Divine.
My life for so long was one around confrontation and lack around abundance in my life. Abundance of all kinds, from money to health to thought.
Then in 1999 I attended a Christmas church service at Spiritual Life Center, an interfaith Unity church. It was the candlelight service which culminates with the passing out of candles with affirmation blessings wrapped around the candle. At the end of service everyone lights their own candle and demonstrates that one candle lit for each person eventually lights the world.
My affirmation attached to the candle base said, "The Lord is my one source of supply. In my oneness with him, my goodness overfloweth. Abundance is mine." I loved this affirmation and from that very moment until now I have said that affirmation everytime I think about it. At first, I would sometimes say it 20 or 30 times during the day.
My relationship with abundance, including finances changed from that point forward. I somehow knew I was in a holy relationship with spirit. The universe was filled with abundance and I was a part of it. I was filled with treasure, with time, and with talent.
Thus again it comes to the magic reframing of gratitude and awe around everything in the world. We know that spirit is the flow of the world and our flow works the best when we let go and let God be a part of the flow. It is why that statement of 'let go, let God' is one of the most popular passages in Unity's Daily Word booklet. Every time the doubt starts to stop on your route let go and let God. It will change everything!
