I decided every once in a while to have a blog that looks at oddities of the world. It is thoughts about some of the strange things going on in the world. Let's take a look today.
Last week the police dispatch in Omaha, Nebraska reported to the police out on beat that a man was driving with a bull in his car. The police envisioned a man with a small calf in the back seat of a car.
Wrong! Instead they found a modified Ford Crown Victoria sedan with a full size Watusi bull riding shotgun. The car had been modified for parades and for Howdy Doody (the bull) to ride along. There was a yellow metal cattle gate serving as the passenger side door to tie Howdy up. Lee Meyer, the bull owner, was on his way to Norfolk some 16 miles away. The police checked the car for operating violations (did you wonder what happened when Howdy had to go to the bathroom? It was not pretty after all Howdy was some 2,500 pounds of bull.
Lee's wife stated, "The amount of money that he's spent on this whole darn project between the car and the bull could have bought me a brand new kitchen. (This is a wife with a great deal of patience.) Lee was given fix-it tickets and told to drive Howdy home. What was Lee thinking when he first got the bull into the car? The police said they had never dealt with anything like that before. I just thought it was a lot of bull!
Some 70 miles east of Tybee Island, Georgia the Coast Guard came across a man in the open seas in his vessel. Unfortunately his vessel was a giant floating hamster wheel made of buoys and wires, self propelled by Reza Beluchi running inside. In addition, Hurricane Franklin was fast approaching. The Coast Guard asked for his registration (he did not have it) and then asked his destination. He replied he was on his way to London, England, which was some 4,000 miles away.
The Coast Guard filed a complaint in the US District Court citing Baluchi for "conducting a manifestly unsafe voyage." Again what was this man thinking? His reality was that he had some 4,000 miles of running ahead of him to get his hamster wheel to London.
Finally a news item that I have some ambivalence around. Loch Ness is Great Britain's largest lake by volume. It is 22 square miles with a maximum depth of 788 feet. There have been sightings of a monster starting in 565 AD. In 1934 English physician Robert Wilson took photos which became known as the surgeon photos.
Researchers have had enough. They are mounting the biggest search for Nessie in over 50 years. They are even setting up cameras so people can do a large surface watch from home. Our purpose is to "study, observe, and record the natural behavior of the Loch phenomena." I think either answer as a result of this search will have me filled with curiosity.
So you can see this is an interesting world.. I have a card at home that I send to someone now and then. It has a black front with white lettering that states, "Life is weird!" Have a great day!
