My Sister

I really love the relationship I have with my sister. She has kept connected to me through the years and now that there have been health challenges we have had precious conversations about growing up. She came into our family some six years after my brother and I had arrived so I was 6 and my brother was 5 when she was born.

Then my brother turned 17 and I turned 18 and it was time to leave the house or follow the family to Minot, North Dakota (on purpose!) to live. So from that point on we communicated from afar.

She is definitely one of a kind. In talking today, I mentioned that the series "Young Sheldon' reminded me of some of the things that she did growing up.

There did come a point when the teacher in her high school class made a statement and my sister raised her hand. She wanted to let her teacher know that he was wrong. She then proceeded to prove it with the factual back-up showing his mistake. She did get into some trouble and my mom said she had some time explaining it wasn't the fact that the teacher was wrong - it wass the fact of proving him wrong in public before some 35 students.

at another point in time she went shopping with my mother (my mother sometimes got a little anxious on these shopping trips). She was looking at dresses and working with a saff member of the dress shop. She asked about the price and then proceeded to evaluate the dress in terms of double stitching in some places, and missing some normal extra strength stitches just to make a quality dress. She then stated the dress was not worth the pricing. Young Sheldon indeed!

We were talking about a special tool my dad had at our house. It was a big rubber mallet. Written on the side of the hammer in big red letters was the phrase 'special hit kids hammer' and he kept it in plain sight in the house.

Be we also share one of his favorite quotes that have judged both our lives and how we approach our work ethic and everything we do. We dad said we should never do a 'half-ass' job. If we were going to do anything, it must be done with total effort and quality and class. If it was worth the effort, then it was worth putting out something that represented us. Something that we produced had our signature on it and demonstrated what we were putting into the world. This related to papers, food, projects, and anything that we did. I treasure that reality. It is the stamp of approval when I finish any kind of project.

It means that we tend to stand out in the world. We actually get things done and figure things out. We show up on time and do the tasks that have been assigned to us.

It means that we are present in a more conscious way. We know that we will always be able to be who we are.

It also means that we stay connected. I continue to say over and over again this is not something we do alone. It is a team effort and connecting with other people adds to the value in our life. I continue to be more of who I am by being in contact with you.

So what is your signature on our planet? When someone thinks of you and your value, what is it? So day-by-day as you move forward it represents who you are. Live your reputation proudly and be authentic.........
