Memory Bubbles

I confess that I am a Facebook junkie. I don't get caught up on everyone's personal information about what they are doing. I just love the postings that appear on-line.

This week I sent to my wife a video of a man surfing at a beach. What made it so different was he was surfing with his two dogs. Not only that - the dogs knew how to position themselves on the board for balance. At one point one dog ended up behind the man on the board. The man bent over and the dog hopped over him to join the other dog at the front of the board.

We talked about the fact that in the midst of all that was going on in the world this video just made us feel good. It stepped away from all the violence and all the doom and gloom. It was people and animals just experiencing life.

I talk all the time about the many distractions on this planet. But the thing to remember is that the distraction itself that can take us away from the Divine can also be the Divine.

Summer is such an abundant time in our area for crops. We are harvesting cucumbers, Italian sweet peppers, green bell peppers, tomatoes, and strawberries from our garden. In addition, our nearby farm stand has prolific fruits and vegetables.

I also confess I have a peach addition. But I have a difficult time believing the rocks they sell in the grocery stores as peaches are actually peaches. I buy mine at the farm stand where everything is a day or two from full ripeness. Tonight just before bed I stood over the sink and ate a sweet, juicy, cold peach. WOW!

I have a place for them in our fruit bin on the counter. I monitor them every day and when one gets near ripe I put it into the refrigerator to cool.

Each time we touch an experience at that level we can fully appreciate it. There are two levels of appreciation. The first is the amazing participation in life and the level we get involved. The second level is the spiritual level the action of eating a fresh peach can take us. We are in the midst of relating on antoher level with another part of God.

It is the phrase I wrote in an earlier blog about 'remembering to remember.' The moment we touch the spiritual experience it is time to step away and be fully in the experience.

At that point, our distraction is not taking us away from the Divine yet directly into the Divine. In my life, I have treasured something that has occurred for me around this. I have moments that I call ;memory bubbles.' A memory bubble is a moment in time when my mind has taken an internal 'photo' that will always be something I can reach back and re-experience. It is the point in time when the connection is so perfect that it can't get any better.

It is the high school summer lying in the grass with a neighborhood friend. The temperature is at such a perfect level it feels like we are laying in a bath. It is perfect. One of my best is sitting on a bus bench with my 4 or 5 year old stepdaughter. We sat on that bench and counted cars. Sometimes we counted red cars and sometimes white cars but I will never forget the amazing laughter we shared that summer day.

Thus another memory bubble! I challenge you to go into your internal world and find your memory bubbles in a conscious way. You have them so explore and re-live for a moment that perfect time! Then gather them together in your memory bubble bank!
