I am in another phase of self-exploration that drives me crazy. We all have this occur. It is that point in time when we suddenly wonder "Why am I here?" "What is my purpose during this life?"
I believe in reincarnation. It means we come back again and again getting closer each time to full enlightenment. This presents some interesting situations.
It means we will not accomplish everything in this lifetime. Thus there are goals we have which may be 2-life goals or 3-life goals. It has been said that the consistent in the midst of dying is the thought - "wait, I still have things to do!"
But it also means the other side of that. Our goal in this life is to be fully present and use up everything. I have a favorite quote I use often for this.
Jack London has said, "I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dryrot. I would rather be a superb meteor - every atom of me in a magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time!"
This reminds me that during my time I have seen people and it was really clear they were not here for a long extended time. It was fairly clear that Jim Morrison of the Doors, Janis Joplin, Mama Cass of the Mamas and the Papas, Jimi Hendrix, and Amy Winehouse were comets flaming out in the sky just in living their lifes. They were not going to die quietly at a ripe old age. Though it does beg the question why all these musicians died at the age of 27? It is actually called the 27 Club (It's even in Wikipedia!) Another member is Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. It is a bit eerie.
Yet we see others like Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. I read his biography and I realized this man is amazing to be alive. His book talks about his ingestion of everything he could get his hands on; yet today he still plays concerts. Wow!
We look around and see the many different ways each of us show up in thie world. I sometimes look and am filled with even a bit of admiration that someone has been able to live life with this approach.
I know it again makes me realize that all I can do is take one day at a time and face each moment with gratitude. I am still here and God continues to walk with me.
Then I throw in the fact that I have married so far above my pay grade that it is ridiculous. I've got to be the luckiest man on the planet to have found my beloved - though technically she found me! Thank you God..........
