Humor

Updated: Aug 22, 2023

A fellow minister and I once did a Wednesday night service called the "Humor of God." Among other things we told really bad jokes and at the end of the service all the participants were wearing red 'clown' noses.

In this Earth set-up, spirit has given us the physical/ego/world based side as an overlay over our true Divine side. The Divine side is tied into the fact that God has a sense of humor. The duck-billed platypus is a great example of that. It started out as one type of creature, then in the middle of the design spirit changed His/Her mind and the result was a unique animal.

Somewhere along the line, I decided the universe was recess in the plans about life. So I am continually in the 'play' mode. It means I recognize the oddities of life.

Once my brother and his family came to visit. We spent a wonderful day going around Lake Tahoe and I was in full 'play' mode. One of the people in the party looked at me and said, "Being cute over 40 years old isn't!" Of course my answer was to stop dead in my tracks and with great emotion state, "Really! Oh no, I'm going to have to keep any eye on that!" I got an eye roll.

A blessing for me is I've found a partner that plays as much as I do. It does not mean we aren't serious. It just means that in the midst of being serious we see the humor of all.

Sometimes the agencies that run our parks and recs bring in special plants. This was the case at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park and in the town of Warragul near Melbourne, Australia. Both agencies planted bunya pines. They forgot the trees produce large pods which are nuts that can be 40 pounds in weight. In both cases they had to post signs warning people to watch out for giant falling pine cones after a man sitting in the San Francisco park was hit in the head by one of the giant pine cones. He ended up with a head wound. Who knew falling nuts could get you!

The really cool thing about life is when I am in the midst of playing in life and I connect with another 'playful' person we immediately bond to a deeper level. It does not matter if it is the first time we've met. So Rachel and I are continually meeting other 'playful' people and we play away.

It also means we have found a designation of people whose only job is to say to us, "Wow, you guys are having way too much fun!" We call them the fun police and it's good to have them around to know where the 'playful' boundaries occur.

A true 'pl;ayful person is always working right on the edge. Have you played today? Take a chance and let your 'inner child' participate in the process!
