It is the simplest part of life. We do not like it in most cases. It is the one common thread of life while we are on this planet. It is change. It produces at some point some almost continuous grieving for the things we end up missing.
I realized this the other day when I found a book about restaurants in Sacramento that were no longer around.
This blog will be either very interesting bringing up old memories or totally boring. These are some Sacramento restaurants that were foundational for good food in the region.
We start off with the Coral Reef Restaurant on Fulton Avenue. This was a Chinese restaurant with a huge menu of numbers which produced wonderful combinations of food. The secondary part of the restaurant was it was separated into huge numbers of small rooms - each filled with three to five tables to seat up to about twenty-five people. The favorite statement was, "I've never been in this room before."
We then move on to a traditional American Restaurant on Stockton Boulevard called the Rosemont Grill. When I was in my 20's everyone I knew older than 45 loved the Grill which had good food and great service.
Then the Golden Tee on Auburn Boulevard, home of the best steak sandwich in the world. There was some pushback on that because another group of people felt the best steak sandwich around belonged to the Pheasant Club in West Sacramento.
The old steak houses seemed so much better than the modern chains. We had both Chuck's Steakhouse of Hawaii on Marconi Avenue and the Buggy Whip on Fulton Avenue. Both restaurants had the most tender steaks because they marinated them in papaya juice.
The reason for bringing all of this up is again that our lives are filled with memories and experiences. It is how we live on the planet. It is so important that we continue to add to our memories and experiences as we move forward, building our steps ahead rather than freezing in our steps behind us.
I look forward to connecting in new ways as we learn more about the connections of life...
