Feeling It

One of my favorite musicians of all time is Karen Drucker. She has penned many of the hymns, affirmations, and songs I've sing on Sundays. We had her visit us during our interfaith program in 2015 and it was a packed house as she shared her life. It is a life filled with a rich treasure of spirit and ministry. I love her positive and quirky approach to life. Her life was filled with things like babysitting for Carol King, saving the Hollywood sign, and long distance open water swimming. She is one of a kind.

I get her monthly newsletter and this month she talked about the youth and a saying that they are using. When they are not connecting with something they say they are not "feelin' it." I thought to myself how often in our lives we aren't "feeling it" and it is plain to see. Yet we ignore the lack of feeling around something. I knew at one point of time well before my last day that I was no longer energy present at my job. It was only because I had a commitment to give quality effort that my last month at work was productive.

I wondered in our lives how often one of the facets of our life has an area that we are not present. It revolves around some isssue which we have compartmentalized into a place we don't think about it. It may be the relative we haven't talked to for a long time. It may be the friend we've lost touch with who we know is going through a challenging time. It may be avoiding a part of our health. The issues are tremendously and tend to trigger us. My wife and I have found that in the moment of our spirited discussions when we are triggered it is not about the issue. It is about something from the past that has not been faced or has been ignored or avoided. But on one level, our mind doesn't forget anything.

It is the fact that we are carrying baggage. It is not required that we rid ourselves of the baggage but it is critical that we know what the baggage is and how it impacts us.

So overall our job is to have all of our life in flow so we can say we are "feeling it." The parts that have been frozen or stagnant need our attention. It is so much easier and it moves us away from the feeling of Divine discontent. It is the discontent there is more to do; there must be steps we can take.

Our goal is to make sure the steps we take are spirit driven and come from love and not ego. So take a look and see where things are locked up. What steps must you take to break up the dam of indecision and uncertainty. Take the next step and start the process.....
