I spent this morning with an old friend just talking. We hadn't sat together for a long time and so we talked about everything. As we talked, we realized that there is an irony that I noticed.
In California, the fast food workers now make $20.00 an hour or more yet our caregivers who work in the rehab centers and in positions that aren't nurse level make less. So we value our staff that fix our burgers more than those who care for us. This doesn't seem quite right. Yet it is the same thing with teachers who guide the young minds versus other professionals. This is part of the unbalanced perception we have in the world.
I did a blog a long time ago about being mean to each other and it reminds me of a poem that Nadine Clopton quoted in a piece she wrote. "In order for me to write poetry that is not political I must listen to the birds and in order to hear the birds, the warplanes must be silent." It is not trying to determine where the violence comes from; it is just we must slow down into a place of quiet below the chaos and violence. It is there true spirit lies. But such a hard lesson to remember.
I believe we have the ability as humans to live in peace and harmony - yet isn't it interesting that people who write of that (I'm thinking of John Lennon) are called dreamers and radicals and are often ridiculed. This is all part of the duality of ego and the agitation around it. It is the agitation between ego and the Divine as we try to resolve the balance.
Both sides can live in this same world. It seems like chaos is more prevalent yet I think this is a perception that is brought about by the ability of social media to cause the news to appear everywhere at once. A riot on the other side of the world appears immediately in a posting and we see the violence right in front of us. It is that part of human beings that go to NASCAR races to ssee the car race and at the same time to perhaps see a possible car wreck. We can't look away.
It's scary to me that when attempts have been made to have a news station that shows only good news fails because people don't watch it.
What is the objection to being a nice person? One of my dear friends is the nicest man I have ever met. He has showed up in life as the 'good guy.' In his life, he has done random acts of kindness to go give people a helping hand. Everyone loves how he shows up yet my next question is can we emulate him by just doing perhaps one act of kindness each day?
It's time for a groundswell movement. It will be about kindness. Our personal goal is to do one act of kindness each day. Just one. It's not about trying to figure out how to do it.
It will present itself if we but set intention at the start of each day. It is the prayer of asking to be an instrument of spirit today to join in balance and harmony this day with an act of kindness.
The specifics will show up in the flow of the day; let me have the eyes to recognize this next act of kindness. It is who you are and your personal magnificence blooming. WOW, I can't wait to see what happens next!
