I continue to speak to a truth. Again this is not a dress rehearsal; this is the real deal. So every time we hold back or don't give 100% because we are 'waiting' for something we are doing ourself a disservice.
The football world has a quarterback that plays for the San Francisco 49ers; his name is Brock Purdy. At one time he was the third ranked quarterback for the team. He was also the very last player selected in the football draft by a team (after five days of choosing).
He astounded the football world by winning and winning. Now he has lost some. But he always appears calm when he makes his decisions. Here's something everyone says about Purdy. Brock believes in being totally 100% prepared to do his job. He spends hours each week watching film to see what his opponents will do. He is the first one on the field and the last one off the field. He has an urgency that this is his opportunity and he has to be fully prepared to step in.
Many of us spend lots of time finding reasons not to be fully prepared. My partner used to say that it is easy to spot someone who is fully active in the world - they are always ready to go. They are the people who get things done every time in the face of whatever challenge occurs.
In the end it means when the impossible is before you just back up and figure another way to do it. There is always a way to get things done. I always want to be the guy who loves the challenge and puzzle of the insurmountable task.
In light of that, I keep coming up with words that fit together in a totally different way that really explain a deeper consciousness of life approach.
The first phrase I came up with occurred during a meeting. Everyone at the beginning of the meeting was asked to share two words around what they were bringing to the team and the work to be done. My two words was the fact that I was 'alarmingly enthusiastic. Not just enthusiastic but alarmingly so~ I felt that explained my approach to taking the steps to get it done, no matter what the obstacles. After all, obstacles are only small hitches that enable us to take deeper actions.
Last wek I discovered another term that was perfect. We were trying out a restaurant for the very first time. It was not the level of food that we had hoped and when my beloved asked how I wanted to describe my disappointment. I told her the restaurant had been 'stunningly mediocre.' It wasn't just mediocre but they had taken mediocrity to a new lower level. Every single facet from ambience to food to service was stunningly mediocre. It fit perfectly.
So in the end it is about participating full out. If you're going to be a part of the process, make sure others involved in the process see that you are in the now, in the flow, and ready to go. It's no different than our interactions with others. The sign of a life well-lived is the ability for those who interact with you to realize they feel better through their interaction with you. Make a difference and make a statement!
