Camelot

There are crux points in our lives. These are places where we make a U-turn or veer in a different direction and everything changes. I'm going to touch upon three different times for me when, once I made a decision, everything was different.

The first was when I was a Unity student in the Sacramento region in 1998. I had been attending a church and they mentioned from the podium about a couple who were starting a church. The next Sunday I attended Spiritual LIfe Center (SLC) for the first time. It actually scared me! It was just being birthed and the energy was electric. I backed away for a year and the next time I attended I never left.

Now and then many things come together in just the right order with the right people. This was a period of time that I call Camelot. It was the Spring of spiritual growth. The ministerial leaders had envisioned a place where anyone could worship and still keep their faith tradition independence. All were invited to become fully involved and bring ideas and programs to life. I actually told one of the ministers that it was too late for the two of them. They had reached the top of the mountain and the snowball was gathering speed, gathering courage, and causing change in whatever it touched. Now the church was filled with those who had the same vision.

For some 15 years the program thrived in so many ways. If events occurred in the region that required volunteers, they were all from SLC. Everyone knew that big things were happening

It was Huck Finn whitewashing the fence; and everyone wanted to be part of the workcrew. Amazing things were accomplished even as change continued.

But as always, change is a part of life. The big change was losing the Senior Minister, Reverend Faith Moran to a severe health challenge. It seemed only appropriate that it was Faith that was lost. But it only changed the method. All the pieces of Camelot went out into the world. Now some 25 years later we can stop and point to places where pieces of Camelot still appear and make a difference.

It reminds us that we all carry the DNA of spiritual growth and dynamic change. It is our job to remember that, so each day we remember to make a difference. You, my friend, are changing the world.
