Happy week to be! My name is Rev. Dave Lyman. I am an interfaith minister operating in the Sacramento region of California. My friends have been telling me for a long period of time that I have a quirky way of looking at life. So I have decided to write down my thoughts about life in a blog. I have found that putting together a blog has a very steep learning curve so please realize that each step I take is brand new and the product can sometimes be very interesting.
My start today has to do with balance. Maybe it all started with electricity. Prior to that, we ate when we were hungry; we slept when we were tired; and all was in a kind of balance. But then came the modern convenience of electricity and we all reverted to a proverbial two-year old. A two-year old believes that all the good stuff happens as soon as he/she leaves the room or is put to bed. Suddenly with electricity we could light up the dark so we could stay up into the night. So we did. An out of balance circle started. Since we had light we could also eat in the middle of the night.
Everything changed and suddenly there were no spaces of time to respond. When questions came up or tasks were to be done, it was immediate and anything slower was not acceptable. Thus was born our out of balance world. For many, it feels way out of control. It doesn't seem often as if we have any choice in decisions which are personal.
The trouble is that this impacts one of the spiritual aspects of who we are - it is the attribute of self-care. We have this wonderful duality around physical/ego/world versus spiritual/Divine/God based. One of the ways to balance that is through the use of self-care.
It brings us right back to eating when we are hungry and sleeping when we are tired. Thus is born the circle of balance. Be balanced my friend!
