I keep learning new things. It's as if the world keeps reminding me there is more to do and more to know and more to appreciate. I saw a quote that said "The Earth has music for those who listen!"
This morning I was watching tennis. As I have mentioned, I am a tennis junkie, I;ve lived tennis all my life. One of the four major tennis tournaments in the year is the French Open or as it is called Roland Garros.
Roland Garros was a French aviation pioneer whose friends put together the French Championship. At first it was omly open to French citizens, but then it grew in stature. It is over a hundred years old and is the only major championship played on clay.
I have on a number of occasions played on clay. I do not like the surface; it is like playing on dirt. After a short period of time my white socks would turn red with dust. I had to slide into my shots rather than run to a location and hit the ball The surface speed is rather slow. But in the end there are players who love the surface.
Today I am watching one of the great clay players of all time. It is nearing the end of his career. He has won the French Open fourteen times. He has played 115 matches in the French Open and his recordis 112-3. He is the king!
But it is the back end of his career. He was injured so his player ranking was lower. So in the first round he is playing the number three player in the world. Yet the stadium is filled with spectators. In the stands sits a number of the top ranked men and women players in the world to see this match which may be Rafa's last at the French Open. This is history! We give thanks for the way Rafa has shown up through the years.
He was born and grew up in Mallorca Spain and still lives there to this day. He has given back to his community by establishing the Rafa Nadal Academy where some of the top junior players in the world come to train. In the last few years, he has married his long time girlfriend aand now is a parent.
He has established a life of excellence and is a prime example of someone who believes that his actioons reflect who he is. I believe that in our life our actions state to the world "This is who I am!" It points out to me that I always want to show up that way. It is my signature of my Divine so that people can look and see what I represent.
We all have the opportunity to show up. How well do we do it? When people think of us or talk about us, is the conversation about integrity and the unique way we show up? Is it about the dark side we bring to the world?
One of the most difficult parts of my life is that because of my health challenges and my adventure with dialysis there are days I would like to take back. They are the days that I am whiiny and less than happy on my way to my private and personal rabbit hole. I just feel so blessed that my default setting is tigger. If not for that, I would be so challenged.
Thank you Rafa for how you've shown up and all that you've given us through the years. We know what you stand for and we give thanks for your shining light. Meanwhile, how is your light shining............
